Sophia Lee

Prima solista dal Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet

My name is Sophia Soyeon Lee, I was born in 1991 in Seoul, Korea but moved to Vancouver, Canada when I was 12 years old. I started to work with Ms Sandra at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Professional Division when I moved up to level 6 and all the way through until I graduated. I worked with Ms Sandra for about two years and I will always remember those times with a smile and lots of wonderful memories (also with some pain in my toes..) Sandra was such an inspiring teacher to work with, especially since she was a professional dancer and she, herself experienced dancing on stage, dancing with partners, how to do corps work as well as principal roles and that way she could give us advise and tips from a dancer’s point of view, and not only from a teacher’s point of view. My favourite was when she would give us grande allegro exercises in centre and parts of it would be from a real classical ballet variation. It made us express ourselves more and have a little taste of variations (because we all love variation classes!!!). She knows a lot of information about dance in general but also about companies around the world and is always willing to help
any of her students in any way possible. She will always be my mentor and support. I am so eternally grateful to Ms Sandra who has helped me so much to get me to where I am now and I know she will be proud of me… and wherever I go, I will try to make her proud!
